Embodied Experience revolves around Emilija's personal experience with religion. She looked to the family album to pick photographs associated with her spiritual journey. The goal with the drawings is not to illustrate the memories, but rather to provide an outlet for the emotional and psychological questions that have arisen from the artist's experience of institutionalized religion, as well as to create an opportunity to reflect on the matter. In the process, art becomes the mediator, providing a safe space to play, be creative and work through emotions stored as embodied memory. The work, besides being a personal re-creation of memories, reveals one of the powerful aspects of creating art: a space and place to work through current and past emotions. By inserting a private experience in the public space, Emilija also confronts the viewer with their personal embodied knowledge about spirituality.
